38th Coach George Yamamoto Track & Field Invitational

Coach George Yamamoto was one of the founding staff members of
Mililani High School when it first opened its doors to the community in 1973.
A member of the Physical Education and Health Department staff, he
also coached Football, Cross Country and Track & Field.
In 1977 Mililani High School won its first ever O.I.A. Championship for any sport,
when Coach Yamamoto's Boys Track & Field team won the title and then
proceeded to take the 1977 State Championship Runner-up Trophy.
Since his passing in 1984, we have held the Coach Yamamoto Track & Field Invitational
to honor his memory and the spirit of excellence he inspired in his athletes.

Coach Chad Miyamoto started coaching at Mililani High School in 2003
helping with Track & Field and Cross Country.
A graduate of Aiea High School and Whitworth College, he brought to Mililani High
a wealth of knowledge and an abundance of enthusiasm for the sport
which provided the motivation and encouragement for his athletes to excel.
He also was able to demonstrate that he "practiced what he preached " and that
he could "lead by example" by winning six Hawaii's Fastest Human titles
held at the Punahou Invitational Relays over the years 2004-2014.
Though Chad’s passing in 2020 was way too soon,
we hold the Chad Miyamoto Memorial Coaches 4x100m Relay to remember
and honor that same spirit and athleticism he displayed when he was coaching.
The event is open to coaches, alumni and parents from each participating school.
